 Two million years ago early humans cooked with fire to improve texture and safety. Ancient bread was discovered or made by cracked kernels and water, which was likely cooked with stones. Spices were as valuable as gold in Europe and it was used to show wealth. French cuisine became highly sophisticated during the 17th centuries moving into  more modern, structured gastronomy. The eighteen hundreds saw the formalization of culinary training and the birth of food science, influenced by culinary experts like Brillat-Savarin.

Facts:

• Chocolate chip cookies were created in the 19th century by accident when a baker ran out of baking chocolate and used chopped-up candy bar pieces.
• Ketchup was sold as medicine in the 1830s to treat aliments like diarrhea and indigestion.
•  The word “salary” comes from the Latin salarium, which was money given to Roman soldiers to buy salt.
• The world’s most expensive pizza is reported to cost around $12,000.
• The first drinking straws were created 5,000 years ago by the Sumerians for drinking beer.
• There are over 350 different types of pasta known worldwide.
•  French fries likely originated in Belgium, where villagers ate fried fish, and during winter, they fried potatoes, say reports.
  

Culinary Legends & Origins:

• Margherita Pizza: Legend says it was named after Queen Margherita of Savoy in 1889 to represent the colors of the Italian flag.
• Pound Cake: This cake is named “pound” because original recipes called for a pound each of butter, flour, sugar, and eggs.
• Tale of Two Cities (or rather, cookies): The first American cookbook, The Boston Cooking School Cookbook, was published in 1896 by Fannie Farmer and introduced precise measurements, revolutionizing home cooking.

Web Design History over the years:

The first website was created by Tim Berners Lee, in 1991. The Mosaic web browser was released, allowing images to appear alongside text, which revolutionized web aesthetics in 1993. In the late 90s, Cascading style sheets were created and allowed it to be separated from content (html) from styling. The iPhone influenced web design, where the sites(website) adapts to screen sizes, in 2007. In 2010, there came flat design. It is a shift toward minimalism, prioritizing speed, accessibility, and clean 2D aesthetics over heavy graphics. 

Facts:

•  The average human attention span has dropped to 8 seconds—shorter than a goldfish’s—making instant visual impact critical.
• First Search Engine: The first search engine was named “Archie,” created in 1990 to index FTP files.
• Studies show users view websites starting from the top-left corner, a behavior stemming from traditional reading patterns.
•  Many tech giants use blue for links and branding because it is viewed as a trustworthy, calm color, increasing focus on content.
•  Despite the prevalence of images, text often attracts more attention and engagement on websites, as images can be misunderstood.
• Standardization struggle: It was not until 1998, with the formation of the Web Standards Project (WASP), that browsers began to align on common standards.
